Reflection

This semester's main focus was on designing an urban room project that prioritizes the creation of meaningful and impactful spaces for people. The project is situated in Melaka and takes place along a riverside, making it one of the most interesting studio projects I've ever received. However, the vast size of the site posed a challenge for me. Throughout the process, I gained valuable experience in design, technical drawings, and considerations, particularly when designing a basement car park.

I am pleased with my progressive improvement during the project, even though there are still many aspects that need further attention and refinement. Nonetheless, I succeeded in achieving the goals I had set for this semester and have grasped what was necessary to accomplish this project.

Pre-Design Studies & Analysis

Within a group, perform a set of comprehensive site studies and analyses using observation, research, surveys, and interviews. The goal is to create appropriate strategies and programs for the specific site (Jalan PM 10, Melaka). Additionally, conduct an impact analysis to gain deeper insights into how a sustainable community would affect the target user group and the site.

Design Strategies and Exploration

To further explore the design ideas and programmes based on Project 1a individually. In this stage, we were to examine design concepts within the proposal from various perspectives and explore multiple possibilities as well as pay close attention to the functionality, effectiveness, spatial quality, and composition of the form through a series of sketches, diagrams, and massings.

Final Design Presentation & Report

"Sailing Destiny"

Amidst the currents of the river, ships become bridges, linking people to their dreams and weaving the tapestry of destiny. They carry the echoes of a bygone era, where freedom thrived within their confined homes. With sails unfurled, they navigate the vast expanse, seeking livelihood and opportunity, while always returning to their origins. These vessels safeguard the land and shape the city's prosperity, leaving footprints that echo through time. Today, they stand as silent witnesses, reminding us that our destiny lies in the ebb and flow of the seas, forever guiding us towards new horizons.
